How to treat balanoposthitis
Treatments for balanoposthitis include general care, topical medications, circumcision, and other methods, which can effectively alleviate symptoms such as redness, swelling, and pain in the glans when applied promptly.
1. General Care
Patients should maintain cleanliness and hygiene of the glans area and avoid unnecessary external irritation. If phimosis or redundant prepuce is present, timely medical consultation and treatment are recommended. For patients who develop ulcers or erosion, daily wound cleaning and dressing changes are necessary.
2. Topical Medications
For mild symptoms causing redness and discomfort of the glans, topical agents such as miconazole cream, clotrimazole cream, or erythromycin ointment may be used under medical guidance. Appropriate use of these medications helps control inflammatory infections and promotes recovery of glans health.
3. Circumcision
In cases of severe swelling or scar contracture leading to phimosis, a comprehensive evaluation should be performed, and circumcision may be considered after ruling out contraindications. Postoperative care should focus on maintaining wound hygiene.
Additionally, treatments such as laser surgery may also be used. Sexual activity should be avoided too early during recovery. Wearing comfortable underwear is advised, and tight-fitting garments should be avoided.
