Introduction
Meibomitis refers to hordeolum, an acute suppurative inflammation caused by infection of the eyelid glands and hair follicles at the base of the eyelashes. Hordeolum is classified into external and internal types. External hordeolum is usually caused by bacterial infection of the sebaceous glands associated with eyelash follicles. Internal hordeolum typically results from acute suppurative inflammation of the meibomian glands located deep within the eyelid, and requires medical evaluation and treatment.

Meibomian gland inflammation, clinically referred to as blepharitis, is an inflammatory condition caused by infection of the eyelid glands. The specific details are as follows:

Blepharitis is classified into two types: external and internal. External blepharitis is usually caused by bacterial infection of the sebaceous glands associated with hair follicles of the eyelashes. It typically presents with eyelid swelling, itching, and distending pain. A hard nodule can be felt near the eyelid margin, accompanied by tenderness. Internal blepharitis is usually an acute suppurative inflammation of the deeper meibomian glands within the eyelid, manifesting as redness, swelling, and pus formation in the eyelid. A yellowish-gray pus point may appear on the surface.

Patients are advised to undergo relevant examinations at a hospital and follow medical instructions for targeted treatment to promote recovery and restore eye health.
