What is a stye?
Generally, hordeolum is a common ophthalmic condition that causes inflammatory reactions in the eyelid glands and hair follicles of the eyelashes. A detailed analysis is as follows:
Also known as stye, hordeolum is an acute suppurative inflammatory disease commonly seen in adolescents. It occurs due to infection of the eyelid glands and eyelash follicles by Staphylococcus bacteria. Initially, there is local swelling and redness of the eyelid; as the condition worsens, symptoms such as distending pain and itching develop, and a hard nodule can be felt near the eyelid margin. If the inflammation spreads from one gland to others, pus formation may occur, potentially progressing to eyelid cellulitis, leading to systemic symptoms such as chills and fever.
After onset of ocular symptoms, prompt medical evaluation is necessary, followed by targeted treatment based on specific clinical manifestations.
