How to perform rehabilitation training after meniscus tear surgery
After meniscus tear surgery, lower limb contractions, walking with crutches, and muscle group exercises may be selected according to the recovery progress under a physician's guidance. Specific details are as follows:
1. Lower Limb Contractions
Joint stability has not been fully restored after surgery and requires time for wound healing. During the first 1–2 weeks post-surgery, lower limb contraction exercises can be performed under the guidance of a rehabilitation therapist. Depending on physical condition, 45-degree leg lifts may also be appropriate.
2. Walking with Crutches
If the patient is recovering well, walking with crutches with assistance may begin 2–4 weeks after surgery to gradually restore knee joint function.
3. Muscle Group Exercises
Between 6 and 12 weeks after surgery, the patient's physical condition is generally sufficiently recovered to perform squatting and weight-bearing exercises to strengthen the leg muscles and increase muscular strength.
In addition to the above common exercises, patients may also consider ankle pump exercises, jogging, and similar activities. Exercise intensity should be carefully managed, and regular hospital follow-up visits are recommended.
