What causes body aches in teenagers?
Generalized body aches in adolescents may be caused by growing pains, physical exercise, upper respiratory tract infections, and other factors. Specific causes are as follows:
1. Growing Pains
Adolescents experience rapid physical development, which may lead to growing pains and result in generalized body pain. Typically, once physical development is complete and the epiphyseal plates close, the pain resolves on its own.
2. Exercise
After intense physical activity, adolescents may develop muscle damage or lactic acid buildup, leading to tightness, soreness, and swelling in soft tissues. These symptoms usually resolve after adequate rest.
3. Upper Respiratory Tract Infection
Infections of the upper respiratory tract caused by bacteria or viruses can lead to systemic muscle aches, fever, cough, and other symptoms. Under medical guidance, medications such as ibuprofen sustained-release capsules, cefaclor granules, and acetaminophen tablets may be used for treatment.
In addition, generalized body aches may also occur due to chronic sleep deprivation or underlying conditions such as dermatomyositis, rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, or hypocalcemia. It is recommended to seek medical evaluation and receive treatment based on the underlying cause.
