Introduction
Pain in the left throat and left ear may be caused by acute tonsillitis, acute pharyngitis, or left pericoronitis of a wisdom tooth, and requires prompt treatment. Besides these causes, acute otitis media is also possible. Because treatments vary depending on the underlying cause, it is important to seek timely medical evaluation at a hospital to determine the exact diagnosis.

Generally, pain in the left side of the throat and left ear may be caused by conditions such as acute tonsillitis, acute pharyngitis, or left pericoronitis of a wisdom tooth. Active treatment is required. Specific analyses are as follows:

1. Acute Tonsillitis

This refers to an acute nonspecific inflammation occurring in the tonsils. Due to inflammatory irritation, severe sore throat and pain during swallowing may develop. As the condition progresses, it may also affect the ears and oral cavity. Treatment should be carried out under medical guidance using medications such as compound chlorhexidine mouthwash, cefixime capsules, and cefuroxime axetil tablets.

2. Acute Pharyngitis

Acute pharyngitis is a common type of acute upper respiratory tract infection. Symptoms such as dryness, burning sensation, and pain may occur, and the inflammation may extend to the ear area. Medications such as cydiodine lozenges, yinhuang lozenges, and diclofenac sodium sustained-release tablets should be taken according to medical advice.

3. Left Pericoronitis of Wisdom Tooth

Pericoronitis is a purulent inflammation affecting the soft tissues surrounding the crown of a wisdom tooth. It causes local swelling and pain, and in some cases, the inflammation may spread to areas such as the throat and ears. Medications such as ibuprofen sustained-release capsules, acetaminophen sustained-release tablets, and metronidazole tablets should be taken as directed by a physician.

Besides the above-mentioned causes, pain may also result from other conditions such as acute otitis media, trigeminal neuralgia, or laryngeal tumors. Because the underlying causes vary, treatment approaches differ accordingly. It is important to promptly visit a hospital to determine the exact cause for appropriate management.
