Introduction
Standards of Mental Health: 1. Self-awareness and self-acceptance—having a realistic understanding of oneself without imposing harsh or unrealistic expectations and demands; 2. Acceptance of others and ability to interact harmoniously—capable of sharing joy with close friends while also feeling content and free from loneliness during solitude and reflection; 3. Facing reality and accepting it—proactively adapting to reality is a hallmark of mental health.

Mental health refers to a state in which all aspects of psychological functioning—and the processes involved—are operating well or normally. The ideal state of mental health is characterized by intact personality, normal intelligence, accurate cognition, appropriate emotions, rational willpower, positive attitudes, adaptive behaviors, and effective social adjustment.

Criteria for Mental Health

1. Self-awareness and self-acceptance

A mentally healthy individual recognizes their own intrinsic value, possesses accurate self-knowledge, and accepts themselves without imposing unrealistic or excessive expectations upon themselves.

2. Acceptance of others and skillful interpersonal relationships

A mentally healthy person enjoys social interaction and integrates comfortably into groups. They can share joy with close friends while also experiencing solitude without feelings of loneliness during quiet reflection.

3. Realistic perception and acceptance of reality

Actively adapting to reality reflects mental health; further, striving to improve reality and fully enjoying life’s pleasures are hallmarks of psychological well-being—rather than perceiving life as an unbearable burden.

5. Ability to regulate and manage emotions

A stable, positive mood prevails. Emotions such as happiness, optimism, cheerfulness, and satisfaction dominate the emotional experience of mentally healthy individuals. Although negative emotions—including sadness, worry, sorrow, and anger—may arise, they typically do not persist for extended periods.

6. Integrated and harmonious personality

In mentally healthy individuals, personality—the totality of one’s mental and behavioral characteristics—is expressed cohesively, consistently, and harmoniously. Such individuals align well with societal norms and integrate smoothly into group settings.

7. Normal intellectual functioning (IQ ≥ 80)

Normal intelligence constitutes a fundamental psychological prerequisite for daily living, work, and learning, and serves as a key indicator of mental health. Individuals with IQ scores below 70 are generally considered intellectually impaired, making it extremely difficult for them to achieve mental health.

8. Psychological and behavioral functioning appropriate to one’s developmental age

At each stage of human development, characteristic psychological and behavioral patterns correspond to chronological age. Mentally healthy individuals exhibit psychological and behavioral traits consistent with those typical of most people their age.

The above outlines the standard criteria for mental health. We hope this response proves helpful to you.
