Bitten by a mosquito, itched for a week
Itching for a week after a mosquito bite may be caused by mosquito bites, contact dermatitis, papular urticaria, or other reasons. It is important to seek timely medical treatment. Specific causes are as follows:
1. Mosquito bites
Mosquitoes usually pierce the skin with their mouthparts, causing an allergic reaction that results in swelling and itching. Under a doctor's guidance, topical application of erythromycin ointment or oral administration of levocetirizine hydrochloride capsules may be used for treatment.
2. Contact dermatitis
This is typically a condition triggered by skin exposure to external substances, occurring at sites where the skin or mucous membranes have come into contact with toxic or irritating foreign materials, leading to symptoms such as itching and swelling. Treatment may include topical application of medications such as compound acetic acid dexamethasone cream or halometasone cream, as directed by a physician.
3. Eczema
This is an inflammatory skin reaction caused by various internal and external factors, such as genetic predisposition or dietary influences. It can lead to localized pathological skin damage and the aforementioned symptoms. Under medical supervision, topical treatments such as desonide cream or tacrolimus ointment may be applied.
In addition to the above causes, similar symptoms could also result from malaria, epidemic encephalitis B, or lymphatic filariasis. It is advisable to wear loose, comfortable clothing, preferably made of cotton.
