Black spots after biting the lip
Dark spots on the lips following a bite injury may be caused by melanin deposition, pigmented nevi, hemangiomas, or other conditions, and appropriate treatment should be selected based on the underlying cause. Specific analyses are as follows:
1. Melanin Deposition
After a lip bite injury, reactive hyperplasia or degeneration of melanocytes beneath the lip mucosa may occur, leading to melanin deposition and resulting in dark spots on the lips. Patients may use medications such as tretinoin cream or adapalene gel under medical guidance.
2. Pigmented Nevus
Pigmented nevi may be associated with congenital heredity or genetic defects. If a nevus affects the lip area, it may also cause the aforementioned symptoms. Treatment options include liquid nitrogen cryotherapy or carbon dioxide laser ablation.
3. Hemangioma
If a hemangioma develops after a lip bite injury, it may present as a nodular black lesion, typically protruding from the mucosal surface. Pulsed dye laser therapy can be used locally to inhibit tumor proliferation and reduce the coloration of the hemangioma.
In addition to the above causes, conditions such as cheilitis, melanocytic nevus, or melanoma may also be responsible. Patients are advised to seek timely medical evaluation at a hospital for accurate diagnosis and prompt appropriate treatment.
