How to quickly reduce fever in children with high body temperature
Generally speaking, high fever refers to high body temperature. When children have a high fever and rapid cooling is desired, physical and medication-based methods are commonly used. The physical method primarily involves cold towel compresses, with the specific steps as follows:
1. Physical fever reduction – Cold towel compress:
① Soak a towel in cold water, wring out about half of the water so that it is damp but not dripping.
② Apply the damp towel as a cold compress to the child’s forehead, groin, armpits, and other areas with major blood vessels. Pay attention to intervals—replace the towel every 10–15 minutes.
③ After the body temperature decreases, use a dry towel to wipe off moisture from the skin.
2. Medication-based fever reduction: When a child's body temperature exceeds 38.5°C and symptoms such as headache or poor mental status appear, acetaminophen tablets or ibuprofen suspension should be taken under medical guidance to help relieve symptoms.
To avoid potential harm to the body, it is recommended to perform these procedures under the guidance of a qualified healthcare professional.
