What are the symptoms of cerebral edema?
In general, cerebral edema may cause symptoms such as nausea and vomiting, headache, blurred vision, limb weakness, and seizures. If discomfort occurs, it is recommended to seek medical attention promptly and receive standardized treatment under the guidance of a physician. Specific analyses are as follows:
1. Nausea and Vomiting
After the development of cerebral edema, increased intracranial pressure can stimulate the vomiting center in the central nervous system, triggering reflexive nausea and vomiting. Patients are advised to take medications such as tegafur-gimeracil-oteracil tablets, metoclopramide tablets, or domperidone tablets as prescribed by their doctor.
2. Headache
If cerebral edema is severe, it may increase pressure within brain tissue, leading to headaches. Patients are advised to take medications such as enteric-coated aspirin tablets, oseltamivir phosphate capsules, or ribavirin tablets as directed by their physician.
3. Blurred Vision
Cerebral edema may compress the optic nerve, affecting the visual center and resulting in blurred vision. Patients are advised to take medications such as vitamin E tablets, amoxicillin capsules, or levofloxacin hydrochloride capsules as prescribed.
4. Limb Weakness
Cerebral edema causes excessive fluid accumulation in brain tissue; in severe cases, this can lead to brain enlargement, damage to the central nervous system, and affect nerves distributed in the limbs and trunk, causing numbness and weakness. Patients are advised to take medications such as Shenling Baizhu Powder, Anshen Bunao Liquid, or Danggui Buxue Capsules as directed by their doctor.
5. Seizures (Epilepsy)
If cerebral edema is not treated promptly and progresses further, it may lead to abnormal brain nerve function, causing neurons to fire repeatedly and excessively, resulting in epileptic seizures. Patients are advised to take medications such as lamotrigine tablets, topiramate tablets, or phenytoin sodium tablets as prescribed.
During treatment, patients should ensure adequate rest, avoid overexertion and staying up late, maintain proper nutrition, and avoid smoking, alcohol, and spicy foods to promote recovery.
