What causes dampness in the scrotum?
Scrotal moisture may be related to environmental factors, improper clothing, scrotal eczema, prostatitis, varicocele, and other conditions. It is important to seek timely medical evaluation and follow medical advice for improvement through general measures, medications, or other treatments. Specific causes are analyzed as follows:
1. Environmental factors: Prolonged exposure to hot and humid environments can increase the temperature of the scrotal area, leading to excessive sweating and resulting in scrotal moisture. Avoid extended periods in such environments, and ensure regular ventilation by opening windows.
2. Improper clothing: Wearing non-breathable underwear or tight pants can restrict air circulation around the scrotum, preventing sweat from evaporating normally and causing dampness. It is recommended to wear comfortable, breathable underwear and loose-fitting trousers, keeping the scrotal area clean and dry.
3. Scrotal eczema: This condition is often associated with psychological factors, diet, and other triggers, and typically presents with blisters, papules, and other skin lesions. When blisters rupture, fluid leakage may lead to scrotal wetness. Follow medical advice to use topical medications such as triamcinolone acetonide and chloramphenicol solution, halometasone cream, or mometasone furoate cream for symptom relief.
4. Prostatitis: Chronic urine retention and prolonged sitting may contribute to prostatitis. Inflammatory stimulation can elevate local temperature, prompting increased sweating as a cooling mechanism, thereby increasing the risk of scrotal dampness. Under medical guidance, medications such as amoxicillin tablets, minocycline hydrochloride capsules, or ciprofloxacin hydrochloride tablets may be used to alleviate symptoms.
5. Varicocele: This condition is usually caused by venous valve insufficiency or impaired venous return, which may lead to poor blood flow in the scrotal veins, resulting in increased sweating and contributing to scrotal moisture. Patients may follow medical recommendations to use medications such as sodium aescinate gel, ipriflavone tablets, or ibuprofen tablets to improve symptoms.
During treatment, attention should be paid to diet. Focus on light foods and avoid spicy dishes such as spicy hot pot and grilled foods.
