Introduction
Dull pain in the right upper abdomen may be caused by postprandial indigestion, muscle fatigue after exercise, cholecystitis, duodenal ulcer, pancreatitis, or other reasons. Avoid anxiety, tension, emotional fluctuations, and excessive stress, as these negative emotions may worsen the pain. During episodes of pain, physical activity should be minimized and adequate rest ensured to facilitate recovery.

Generally, dull pain in the upper right abdomen may be caused by postprandial digestion, muscle fatigue after exercise, cholecystitis, duodenal ulcer, pancreatitis, or other reasons. If discomfort occurs, seek medical attention promptly. Specific analyses are as follows:

1. Postprandial Digestion

After consuming a large amount of food, the stomach and intestines require increased blood supply to aid digestion, which may cause mild discomfort or dull pain in the upper right abdomen. Avoiding overeating can help reduce the burden on the digestive system. Taking a light walk after meals may also promote digestion.

2. Muscle Fatigue After Exercise

Strenuous exercise or a sudden increase in physical activity may lead to abdominal muscle fatigue, resulting in dull pain in the upper right abdomen. Gradually increasing exercise intensity and avoiding abrupt increases in workload can help. Performing proper stretching before and after exercise may prevent muscle injury.

3. Cholecystitis

Cholecystitis is caused by bacterial infection or blockage of the bile duct due to gallstones. Obstruction of bile drainage leads to inflammation of the gallbladder wall, causing dull pain in the upper right abdomen, possibly accompanied by symptoms such as nausea and vomiting. It is recommended to follow medical advice and use medications such as amoxicillin capsules, cefixime dispersible tablets, or Xiaoyan Lidan tablets for treatment.

4. Duodenal Ulcer

Duodenal ulcers primarily develop when gastric acid and pepsin erode the mucosal lining of the duodenum. Prolonged exposure to gastric acid and Helicobacter pylori infection can cause mucosal inflammation, leading to dull pain in the upper abdomen, along with symptoms such as acid reflux and belching. Treatment should follow medical guidance using medications such as omeprazole enteric-coated capsules, lansoprazole tablets, or ranitidine tablets.

5. Pancreatitis

Pancreatitis can be triggered by various factors, most commonly bile duct stones, excessive alcohol consumption, pancreatic duct obstruction, or certain medications. Inflammation of the pancreatic tissue in patients with pancreatitis may cause dull pain in the upper right abdomen, along with symptoms such as vomiting and fever. Under the guidance of a qualified physician, medications such as cimetidine tablets, octreotide acetate, or sodium pantoprazole for injection may be used for treatment.

Maintaining regular meal times with controlled portions and adopting a habit of eating small, frequent meals—while avoiding overeating—can help reduce gastrointestinal burden and alleviate dull pain in the upper right abdomen.
