What causes pain in an undescended testicle?
In general, mild pain in a cryptorchid testis may be caused by puberty development, changes in body position, varicocele, inguinal hernia, or testicular tuberculosis. If discomfort occurs, timely medical consultation is recommended. Specific analyses are as follows:
1. Puberty Development
During puberty, increased levels of male androgens may stimulate the growth and maturation of testicular tissue, leading to mild pain or discomfort. Usually, no specific treatment is required; however, close monitoring is advised. If the pain persists or worsens, consult a doctor to evaluate whether further intervention is necessary.
2. Change in Body Position
Cryptorchid testes are typically located in the inguinal canal or abdomen. When standing or engaging in certain physical activities, gravity may cause the undescended testis to shift downward, stretching the ligaments and blood vessels above it, resulting in pain. It is recommended to avoid prolonged standing or strenuous exercise, and to wear supportive underwear or use a scrotal support belt to reduce pulling sensations in the affected area.
3. Varicocele
Varicocele results from impaired venous return in the spermatic cord veins, causing abnormal dilation and blood pooling in the testicular region. This can elevate testicular temperature and cause tissue hypoxia, leading to pain. Symptoms may also include a feeling of heaviness in the scrotum and reduced sexual function. Follow medical advice to take medications such as compound sodium ferulate and aspirin capsules, sodium escinate tablets, or citrus flavonoid tablets to improve venous circulation and relieve symptoms.
4. Inguinal Hernia
An inguinal hernia occurs when intra-abdominal organs protrude through a defect in the inguinal region, forming a visible lump. If the hernial sac compresses the undescended testis, pain may occur. Other symptoms may include a mass in the groin area and indigestion. Under medical guidance, medications such as ibuprofen sustained-release capsules, tramadol hydrochloride sustained-release tablets, or cefuroxime axetil tablets may be used to manage inflammation and alleviate pain.
5. Testicular Tuberculosis
Testicular tuberculosis is an inflammatory condition caused by the proliferation of Mycobacterium tuberculosis within the testicular tissue, which can damage the tissue and cause pain. Systemic symptoms of tuberculosis such as low-grade fever, night sweats, and fatigue may also be present. Follow your doctor’s recommendations to use anti-tuberculosis drugs such as isoniazid tablets, rifampicin capsules, and pyrazinamide tablets to eliminate the bacteria and reduce inflammation. Surgical treatment may be considered for severe cases.
To help relieve pain associated with cryptorchidism, maintain good personal hygiene, avoid prolonged standing or intense physical activity, and adopt a healthy lifestyle.
