How to lower high androgen levels
In general, high androgen levels may be related to factors such as aging, unhealthy lifestyle habits, medication use, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), and adrenal cortical hyperfunction. It is recommended to improve lifestyle habits, switch medications, and under a doctor's guidance, use medications such as letrozole tablets and spironolactone tablets. Specific causes are analyzed as follows:
1. Aging: Changes in testicular function in males may lead to a gradual increase in androgen levels with age. This is considered a normal physiological change and typically does not require special treatment.
2. Unhealthy lifestyle: Poor lifestyle habits such as chronic alcohol consumption, smoking, and staying up late may disrupt hormonal balance, leading to elevated androgen levels. Symptoms may include fatigue and low energy. It is recommended to improve lifestyle by avoiding smoking and drinking, and ensuring adequate sleep.
3. Medication factors: Certain medications may interfere with the body’s androgen balance, causing elevated levels—particularly drugs containing androgens or their analogs. Side effects such as nausea and vomiting may occur. Medications can be changed under medical supervision.
4. Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS): PCOS is an endocrine disorder that can cause increased androgen levels in women, accompanied by symptoms such as menstrual irregularities, infertility, hirsutism, and acne. Patients should take medications such as progesterone capsules, dydrogesterone tablets, and letrozole tablets as advised by their doctors to aid recovery.
5. Adrenal cortical hyperfunction: This condition may lead to excessive production of androgens by the adrenal cortex, resulting in symptoms such as hypertension, central obesity, and osteoporosis. Patients need timely treatment with medications such as methimazole tablets, minocycline hydrochloride capsules, and spironolactone tablets as prescribed by a physician.
During treatment, maintaining a positive mood and avoiding emotional fluctuations is important. Additionally, patients should maintain regular rest schedules and avoid excessive fatigue.
