Introduction
In general, organ transplantation includes heart, liver, and kidney transplantation. Patients who have undergone heart or liver transplantation may consume moderate amounts of chestnuts; however, chestnuts are not recommended for kidney transplant recipients. Post-transplant diets should be light and bland, avoiding spicy and stimulating foods such as Sichuan pepper, chili peppers, and garlic, which may hinder recovery. It is advisable to consume more foods rich in high-quality protein.

Generally, organ transplantation includes heart transplantation, liver transplantation, kidney transplantation, etc. Patients who have undergone heart or liver transplantation may consume chestnuts in moderation; however, chestnut consumption is not recommended for those who have received a kidney transplant. The specific reasons are as follows:

Chestnuts, as a type of nut, are rich in nutrients such as protein, vitamins, dietary fiber, and carotene. They offer benefits including strengthening the spleen and stomach, improving muscle and bone strength, stopping bleeding, and reducing swelling. For patients after heart or liver transplantation, moderate consumption of chestnuts can help replenish energy, enhance immunity, reduce the risk of infection, and alleviate constipation caused by reduced physical activity post-surgery. In addition, the protein in chestnuts aids in wound healing.

For kidney transplant recipients, chestnut consumption is not advised. This is because chestnuts primarily contain starch and sugar. If a patient experiences elevated blood glucose levels after transplantation, eating chestnuts may further increase blood sugar, making glycemic control more difficult. Post-transplant diets should be light and bland, avoiding spicy and irritating foods such as Sichuan pepper, chili peppers, and garlic, which may hinder recovery. It is recommended to consume more high-quality protein-rich foods such as fish, shrimp, and milk, which help strengthen the immune system.
