Is Globus Hystericus a form of anxiety disorder?
Generally speaking, plum pit qi does not completely refer to anxiety disorder, but anxiety disorder may trigger plum pit qi.
Anxiety disorder is a type of mental disorder primarily characterized by excessive and persistent feelings of anxiety. Patients often experience physical symptoms such as palpitations, shortness of breath, and chest tightness. The causes of anxiety disorder are relatively complex, involving multiple factors including genetic, neurobiological, and psychosocial elements. Plum pit qi, however, is a syndrome in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) with a relatively单一 (single) etiology, primarily related to emotional factors. It results from stagnation of liver qi, which further affects the function of the spleen and stomach, leading to phlegm-qi stagnation in the throat. Symptoms often include throat discomfort, dryness, itching, and a burning sensation.
Anxiety disorder may trigger plum pit qi. When a person is in a state of anxiety, dysfunction of the autonomic nervous system occurs, causing abnormal tension in the throat muscles, resulting in a sensation of a foreign body in the throat and subsequently causing plum pit qi symptoms. Anxiety disorder requires administration of anti-anxiety medications, such as sertraline and paroxetine, under a doctor's guidance. Patients with plum pit qi are advised to follow medical instructions to use herbal remedies such as Chai Hu Shu Gan Wan or Xiao Yao Wan for regulation.
If symptoms of anxiety disorder or plum pit qi occur, timely medical consultation and diagnosis at a hospital are necessary to avoid delays in treatment. In daily life, it is important to actively adjust one's mindset, maintain positive emotions, and learn to cope with stress and anxiety in order to help prevent anxiety disorder and plum pit qi.
