Atypical lymphocytes account for 5%. If they are caused by an infection and symptoms are mild, the condition is generally not serious. However, if they are caused by hematological disorders, autoimmune diseases, or other conditions, the situation is usually more severe. Atypical lymphocytes are morphologically variant lymphocytes, and the normal range is generally less than 2%; therefore, a level of 5% indicates an elevated count. If only mild symptoms such as fever and fatigue are present, the condition is generally not serious.
