Introduction
In general, "big neck disease" refers to simple goiter. Simple goiter can be cured. It is mainly caused by iodine deficiency, goitrogenic substances, hormone synthesis disorders, excessive iodine intake, and congenital defects. The main symptoms include thyroid enlargement, neck mass, and may be accompanied by stridor, difficulty breathing, and coughing.

In general, "big neck disease" refers to simple goiter. Whether simple goiter can be cured depends on the specific circumstances. If the condition is mild, it generally can be cured. However, if the condition is severe, it may not be curable. If experiencing any discomfort, prompt medical consultation is recommended. Detailed analysis is as follows:

Simple goiter mainly results from iodine deficiency, goitrogenic substances, hormone synthesis disorders, excessive iodine intake, and congenital defects. Its primary symptoms include thyroid enlargement and neck masses, possibly accompanied by wheezing, breathing difficulties, and coughing. When simple goiter is in its early and mild stage, it typically presents as slight thyroid enlargement without significant discomfort or abnormal thyroid function. At this stage, timely iodine supplementation, dietary adjustments, or other conservative treatments can effectively control the progression of the condition, allowing gradual resolution of the goiter and achieving recovery.

However, when simple goiter becomes more severe, it may be difficult to cure. For example, if the goiter develops into nodular goiter, especially with large or multiple nodules, medication may have limited effectiveness and complete restoration of normal thyroid structure may not be possible. Additionally, if the thyroid enlargement compresses the trachea, esophagus, or recurrent laryngeal nerve, causing symptoms like difficulty breathing or swallowing, surgical treatment may often be necessary. While surgery can relieve compression symptoms or improve appearance, thyroid function may not fully return to normal, and some patients may develop hypothyroidism after surgery.

Excessive fatigue may reduce the body's immune function and hinder recovery. Patients should ensure adequate sleep and rest and avoid overexertion.
