Introduction
Almonds contain amygdalin, which can break down and produce trace amounts of hydrogen cyanide in the human body. Kudzu root powder has a certain detoxifying effect; however, when consumed together with almonds, it may cause the almond toxins to accumulate in the body, increasing the risk of poisoning and causing symptoms such as dizziness, nausea, and vomiting. Aconite herbs, such as Aconiti Radix (Chuanwu), Aconiti Kusnezoffii Radix (Caowu), and Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata (Fuzi), have medicinal properties that are incompatible with kudzu root powder.

Kudzu starch usually should not be consumed together with almonds, Aconitum herbs, lamb, seafood, or alcohol.

  1. Almonds: Almonds contain amygdalin, which can break down into trace amounts of hydrogen cyanide in the body. Although kudzu starch has some detoxifying effects, consuming it together with almonds may cause almond toxins to accumulate in the body, increasing the risk of poisoning and resulting in symptoms such as dizziness, nausea, vomiting, and other discomforts.

  2. Aconitum herbs: Herbs such as Sichuan aconite (Chuan Wu), Indian aconite (Cao Wu), and processed aconite root (Fu Zi) have properties that counteract those of kudzu starch. Consuming them together may lead to drug interactions that reduce therapeutic effectiveness and may also cause adverse reactions such as gastrointestinal discomfort including abdominal pain and diarrhea, potentially affecting overall health in severe cases.

  3. Lamb: Lamb is warming in nature and has nourishing and warming effects. Kudzu starch is cooling in nature, so their properties oppose each other. Consuming them together may disrupt gastrointestinal function, impair digestion and absorption, and cause bloating, abdominal pain, indigestion, and other issues, thereby reducing the therapeutic benefits of both.

  4. Seafood: Seafood is generally cold in nature and rich in protein and calcium. Components in kudzu starch may react with the protein and calcium in seafood, forming substances that are difficult for the body to absorb, causing indigestion, and possibly leading to abdominal pain, diarrhea, and other symptoms.

  5. Alcohol: Alcohol is warming in nature and has an irritating effect. Consuming kudzu starch together with alcohol may increase the burden on the liver, impairing its detoxification function. It may also alter the properties of kudzu starch, reducing its health benefits, and easily causing symptoms such as heatiness (excess internal heat) and gastrointestinal discomfort.

When consuming kudzu starch, one should carefully choose food combinations according to individual constitution and health condition to ensure well-being. Maintain a bland diet in daily life and avoid consuming spicy and irritating foods such as garlic, spicy hotpot, and mustard.
