Are longan seeds edible?
Litchi seeds are not recommended for direct consumption, but can be used medicinally after appropriate processing. Detailed explanation is as follows:

Litchi seeds are hard in texture. Direct consumption not only results in a bitter, astringent taste and difficulty in chewing and digestion, but may also injure the digestive tract, causing gastrointestinal discomfort or even serious problems such as intestinal obstruction. Moreover, the active ingredients in untreated litchi seeds cannot be absorbed and utilized by the human body, thus offering no beneficial effects.
In traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), litchi seeds can be used as medicinal materials after processing steps such as washing, drying, and stir-frying. They have functions of promoting qi circulation, dispersing nodules, relieving cold-induced pain, and are commonly used to assist in the management of cold-type hernia with abdominal pain, epigastric distension and pain, among other conditions. However, when used as medicine, they should be taken under a physician's guidance, combined with other herbs, and decocted properly.
Fresh litchi seeds should not be consumed casually. If medicinal use is needed, one must consult a qualified TCM practitioner and follow formal medication instructions. Self-administration for either dietary or medicinal purposes should be strictly avoided to prevent harm to health.
