Cefuroxime axetil tablets have a stronger effect on Gram-positive bacteria and are also effective against some Gram-negative bacteria. Cefixime has a more pronounced effect on Gram-negative bacteria, especially showing greater inhibitory activity against certain drug-resistant strains. The two antibiotics differ in the range of pathogens they target. Cefuroxime axetil tablets are commonly used in the treatment of upper respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, among others.
Common formulations of cefixime include tablets and granules. Differences between cefuroxime axetil tablets and cefixime are generally reflected in their antibacterial spectra, indications, routes of administration, adverse reactions, and pharmaceutical forms. A detailed analysis is as follows:
