Introduction
In general, lactating women can consume Ophiopogon japonicus (McDoor) in moderation, but its suitability depends on the mother's individual constitution. Not all lactating women are suited to its consumption, and blind intake may cause discomfort or affect the baby. In daily life, mothers who are breastfeeding may first try a small amount before consuming it regularly, observing whether they experience any adverse effects such as diarrhea or abdominal pain, and also monitoring the baby's reaction after nursing.

Generally speaking, lactating mothers can consume Ophiopogon japonicus (Mai Men Dong) in moderation, but this should be determined according to the mother's individual constitution, as it may not be suitable for all nursing mothers. Blind consumption might cause discomfort or affect the baby. Specific explanations are as follows:

Ophiopogon japonicus is slightly cold in nature and has the effects of nourishing yin, promoting body fluid production, moistening the lungs, and clearing the heart. If a lactating mother experiences symptoms of yin deficiency such as dry mouth and throat, sore throat, or mild fatigue due to sleep deprivation from nighttime breastfeeding or excessive fluid loss, moderate consumption of Ophiopogon water can help alleviate these discomforts. Usually, normal dosages will not adversely affect breastfeeding. However, the dosage should be controlled, typically 3-5 grams per serving, as excessive use may lead to cold accumulation in the mother's body.

For lactating mothers with a cold spleen and stomach constitution, who commonly experience diarrhea or loose stools, consuming Ophiopogon japonicus is not recommended. Its cold nature may worsen the mother's diarrhea symptoms and could potentially affect the baby through breast milk, leading to infantile bloating or increased frequency of bowel movements.

In daily life, lactating mothers should first try a small amount of Ophiopogon before consuming it regularly, observing whether they experience any discomfort such as diarrhea or abdominal pain, while also monitoring the baby's reaction after breastfeeding. If everything appears normal, occasional and moderate consumption may be acceptable.
