How to treat a wound without iodophor
When iodophor is not available, wounds can be managed through basic cleaning and protection methods such as rinsing with saline solution, disinfecting with medical alcohol, cleaning with hydrogen peroxide solution, washing with soapy water, and covering with clean gauze. These measures help reduce the risk of infection. If the wound is deep, bleeding does not stop, or signs of redness, swelling, or pus appear, prompt medical attention is recommended.
1. Saline rinsing: Suitable for various superficial wounds. Gently flush the surface and inside of the wound with sterile normal saline to remove dust, dirt, and other debris, reducing bacterial residue. This method causes minimal irritation and is ideal for initial wound cleansing.

2. Medical alcohol disinfection: Used to disinfect the skin around the wound. Dip a cotton swab in 75% medical alcohol and wipe 2–3 circles outward from the center of the wound. Avoid applying alcohol directly into the wound to prevent tissue irritation and pain.
3. Hydrogen peroxide solution cleaning: Recommended for heavily contaminated wounds or those with necrotic tissue. Apply 3% hydrogen peroxide solution, which produces bubbles upon decomposition to help loosen debris. After cleaning, rinse the area thoroughly with saline to remove residual peroxide and minimize irritation.
4. Soap and water cleaning: In emergencies, wash the wound under running water using mild soap. Gently rub for 15–30 seconds, then rinse thoroughly. This helps remove some bacteria and contaminants and serves as a temporary measure when professional supplies are unavailable.
5. Covering with clean gauze: After treatment, cover the wound with sterile gauze or clean, breathable cotton fabric to protect it from external dust and bacteria. Replace the dressing promptly if it becomes wet or soiled to keep the wound dry.
It's advisable to keep basic wound care supplies at home. Avoid touching wounds with bare hands, handle them gently during treatment, and keep the wound dry during healing to promote proper recovery.
