Introduction
Oral HPV infection usually does not lead to death. Most people can clear the virus naturally within 1–2 years through their own immune system. Only a small number of individuals with persistent infection of high-risk HPV types may develop oral lesions over time, but timely intervention can effectively control the condition. If any symptoms occur, prompt medical consultation is recommended.

Oral HPV infection usually does not lead to death. Most people can clear the virus naturally within 1 to 2 years through their own immune system. Only a small number of individuals with persistent high-risk HPV infection may develop oral-related lesions over time, but timely intervention can effectively control the condition. If any discomfort occurs, it is recommended to seek medical attention promptly.

In terms of viral characteristics, oral HPV is primarily transmitted through oral sex or close contact and is mostly low-risk types, often without noticeable symptoms. The human immune system can gradually eliminate the virus, posing no threat to life. Even in cases of high-risk HPV infection, it typically requires many years of persistent infection before potentially leading to precancerous lesions or oral cancer—this process is slow and can be detected through early screening.

In rare cases, persistent high-risk HPV infection may lead to oral cancer, which could become life-threatening if left untreated in advanced stages. However, such cases are extremely uncommon. With advances in medical technology, early-stage oral cancer can be effectively treated with surgery, radiation therapy, and other methods, resulting in a relatively high 5-year survival rate. HPV infection does not equate to a death sentence—the key lies in early detection and early intervention.

To reduce risks, maintain good oral hygiene by brushing teeth twice daily, rinsing after meals, avoiding unsafe oral sexual practices, quitting smoking, limiting alcohol consumption, undergoing regular oral examinations, and adopting a healthy lifestyle to strengthen immunity.
