What are somatic symptoms of the body?
Somatic symptom disorder is a psychophysiological condition in which psychological stress and emotional distress manifest as physical discomfort. The symptoms recur frequently without clear organic pathology, yet significantly impair daily functioning. If physical discomfort persists for more than three months with no abnormalities found upon medical examination, timely medical consultation is recommended.

This condition essentially represents the bodily expression of psychological factors. Common causes include chronic anxiety, depression, accumulated stress, or traumatic experiences, through which individuals may indirectly express psychological suffering via physical symptoms. Symptoms can affect multiple systems, such as headaches, chest tightness, gastrointestinal discomfort, joint pain, and sleep disturbances. Despite repeated medical consultations and examinations revealing no definitive pathological evidence, symptoms persist or even worsen.
Treatment primarily involves psychotherapy, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy to help adjust maladaptive thought patterns, combined with medication to alleviate anxiety and depressive symptoms when necessary. Interdisciplinary collaborative care may also be required. The core of treatment is helping patients recognize the connection between psychological factors and their physical symptoms, thereby reducing excessive focus on bodily sensations.
Maintaining regular作息 (daily routines), engaging in moderate physical activity, learning stress-reduction techniques such as meditation and deep breathing, avoiding excessive attention to bodily sensations, actively communicating emotions with family and friends, and cultivating hobbies to redirect attention—all contribute to restoring psychological and physical well-being.
