What is tranexamic acid used for?
Tranexamic acid is primarily used to treat bleeding caused by primary fibrinolytic hyperactivity, abnormal bleeding during and after surgery, pathological uterine bleeding, bleeding in patients with hemophilia, and ocular hemorrhage. It is a commonly used hemostatic agent in clinical practice. If symptoms of bleeding occur or medication is needed, it is recommended to use the drug under medical supervision; self-medication should be avoided.
1. Bleeding due to primary fibrinolytic hyperactivity: By inhibiting the activity of plasmin and preventing the breakdown of fibrin, tranexamic acid is suitable for spontaneous bleeding caused by conditions such as leukemia and aplastic anemia, helping to reduce the risk of bleeding.
2. Abnormal bleeding during and after surgery: It can prevent and treat bleeding during surgical procedures, including general surgery and obstetric-gynecological operations. It is particularly effective in surgeries involving significant trauma or a high tendency for bleeding, aiding in intraoperative hemostasis and reducing the likelihood of postoperative bleeding.

3. Pathological uterine bleeding: For abnormal uterine bleeding caused by dysfunctional uterine bleeding or uterine fibroids, it can rapidly stop bleeding, alleviate symptoms such as excessive menstrual flow and prolonged menstruation, and help prevent worsening anemia.
4. Bleeding in hemophilia patients: As an adjunctive hemostatic agent following dental extractions, surgeries, or other procedures in hemophilia patients, it helps compensate for their coagulation deficiency, reduces bleeding time and volume, and enhances procedural safety.
5. Ocular hemorrhage: Used in treating retinal hemorrhage, vitreous hemorrhage, and other ocular bleeding disorders, it promotes absorption of blood by inhibiting local fibrinolysis and protects vision from damage due to hemorrhage.
Dosage must strictly follow medical instructions during treatment to avoid the risk of thrombosis from overdose. Patients should maintain regular作息 (daily routines), avoid strenuous exercise, eat a balanced diet to ensure adequate nutrition, closely monitor their bleeding status, and attend follow-up visits as scheduled for monitoring.
