How to treat chilblains on the face, redness, and hard lumps
Redness and hard lumps on the face caused by chilblains can be treated through warming measures, topical medications, improving circulation, avoiding irritation, and symptomatic management. Seek medical attention promptly if the affected area expands, develops ulcers with pus discharge, or is accompanied by severe pain.
1. Keep warm and rewarm gradually: Leave the cold environment as soon as possible and gently wipe the affected area with lukewarm water (38–42°C). Then wear a thermal mask or scarf to prevent re-exposure to cold, allowing skin temperature and blood circulation to gradually recover.
2. Topical treatment: If the skin is unbroken, apply chilblain ointment or vitamin E cream to relieve redness, swelling, and hardness. For accompanying itching, use a mild anti-itch cream, following the principle of moderate application.

3. Improve circulation: Gently massage the facial area to promote local blood flow. Under medical guidance, take medications that improve microcirculation to help alleviate symptoms.
4. Avoid irritation: Do not scratch or rub the affected area. Avoid washing with hot water or exposing it to extreme cold or other irritants. Refrain from using irritating skincare products to prevent secondary damage to the chilblain site.
5. Symptomatic care: Apply cold compresses appropriately if swelling and inflammation are significant. For minor breaks in the skin, clean and disinfect promptly, and keep the area dry to prevent worsening infection.
When going outdoors, ensure comprehensive protection against the cold by wearing breathable and insulating protective gear. Maintain clean and well-moisturized facial skin, supplement vitamins appropriately, enhance skin resistance, and reduce the likelihood of chilblain recurrence.
