Introduction
Foods that may easily trigger coughing include spicy and irritating foods, overly sweet foods, raw or cold foods, greasy and heavy foods, and allergenic foods. These types of food may irritate the respiratory tract or provoke bodily reactions, thereby inducing or worsening coughs. If a cough persists for more than one week or is accompanied by fever or difficulty breathing, prompt medical attention is recommended.

Foods that may easily trigger coughing include spicy and irritating foods, overly sweet foods, raw or cold foods, greasy and heavy foods, and allergenic foods. These types of food can irritate the respiratory tract or provoke bodily reactions, potentially triggering or worsening cough symptoms. If a cough persists for more than one week or is accompanied by fever or difficulty breathing, medical attention is recommended.

1. Spicy and irritating foods: Ingredients such as chili peppers, Sichuan peppercorns, and ginger contain spicy compounds that can irritate the mucous membranes of the throat and airways, causing congestion and swelling, which may lead to dry cough or exacerbate existing cough symptoms. Individuals with sensitive respiratory systems tend to react more strongly.

2. Overly sweet foods: High-sugar foods like candies, cakes, and sugary drinks can increase mucus production and make it thicker and harder to expel, thereby worsening coughing and phlegm symptoms—particularly noticeable in individuals with productive (phlegmy) coughs.

3. Raw, cold, and chilled foods: Cold beverages, ice cream, sashimi, and other low-temperature foods may cause constriction of blood vessels in the respiratory tract, impairing mucosal defense functions. They may also indirectly trigger coughing by irritating the gastrointestinal system, especially affecting individuals with cold body constitutions.

4. Greasy and heavy foods: Fatty meats, fried foods, and barbecued items are high in fat, increasing digestive burden. They may also contribute to thicker mucus, obstructing airway clearance and triggering or worsening cough symptoms.

5. Allergenic foods: Seafood, milk, eggs, and nuts are common allergens. In individuals with allergic tendencies, consuming these foods may provoke airway allergic reactions, leading to symptoms such as coughing and wheezing, thus requiring special caution.

Diet should generally be light and easy to digest. Increase intake of fresh fruits and vegetables to boost vitamin levels, drink plenty of water to maintain moist respiratory passages, and prefer cooking methods such as steaming, stewing, and boiling to minimize irritation to the respiratory tract and help alleviate cough discomfort.
