Introduction
Melanoma is a type of skin cancer and represents a highly malignant skin tumor, distinct from common basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma. It progresses rapidly and readily metastasizes systemically, resulting in a poorer prognosis. Any morphological changes in a pigmented nevus (e.g., asymmetry, irregular borders, color variation, diameter increase, or evolving appearance) or recurrent ulceration warrants prompt medical evaluation for diagnosis.

In contrast, most non-melanoma skin cancers grow locally and progress slowly, with relatively low metastatic potential. Melanoma cells proliferate and disseminate more rapidly, capable of invading lymphatic tissues and internal organs; thus, disease progression far outpaces that of common skin malignancies, rendering melanoma one of the most life-threatening cutaneous malignancies.

  Clinically, surgical excision is the first-line treatment for melanoma. Complete removal of the lesion at an early stage effectively halts disease progression. When the tumor has become invasive or metastatic, adjuvant targeted therapy and/or immunotherapy are required to control further lesion development. Regular skin screening, vigilant monitoring for abnormal changes in moles, and timely intervention are essential to prevent disease progression.

  In daily life, comprehensive skin protection is crucial: avoid intense sun exposure and repeated mechanical irritation (e.g., friction) of moles; maintain stable immune function; and perform routine self-examinations of the entire skin surface to reduce the risk of melanocytic malignant transformation.
