Can patients with secondary pulmonary tuberculosis return to work?
Patients with secondary pulmonary tuberculosis should not go to work. Secondary pulmonary tuberculosis is a contagious disease primarily transmitted via airborne droplets; thus, patients with secondary pulmonary tuberculosis serve as infectious sources. During speaking, coughing, or sneezing, Mycobacterium tuberculosis may be present in respiratory droplets, which can then be inhaled by healthy individuals, leading to infection. Therefore, patients with secondary pulmonary tuberculosis must refrain from working due to their infectious status.
Additionally, patients with pulmonary tuberculosis require enhanced nutrition and adequate rest. Employment typically imposes physical strain, which is detrimental to tuberculosis treatment and may trigger disease relapse or result in suboptimal therapeutic outcomes.
