Is it better to undergo more hyperbaric oxygen therapy sessions inside the oxygen chamber?

Introduction
Patients should maintain their normal breathing rate inside the hyperbaric oxygen chamber and remain physically and mentally relaxed. Accelerated breathing is not advisable because gas in the physiological dead space cannot be effectively expelled from the body. This leads to two adverse effects: (1) increased carbon dioxide retention within the body, and (2) a relative decrease in oxygen concentration within the physiological dead space—both of which hinder the development of the hyperbaric oxygen effect. Therefore, the notion that “more breaths per minute are always better” is unfounded.

Patients should maintain their normal breathing rate inside the hyperbaric oxygen chamber and remain physically and mentally relaxed.Accelerated breathing is ineffective at eliminating gas from the physiological dead space, leading—on one hand—to further accumulation of carbon dioxide in the body.

On the other hand, oxygen concentration within the physiological dead space decreases relatively, thereby impairing the development of the hyperbaric oxygen effect. Thus, the notion that “more breaths per minute are always better” is unfounded; conversely, hyperventilation may adversely affect the body.
