Introduction
Right vertebral artery stenosis may lead to reduced cerebral blood supply, ischemic stroke, and ischemic ocular disorders, among other conditions. In this patient, stenosis of the right vertebral artery obstructs the blood supply pathway, impairing timely delivery of blood to the brain and resulting in cerebral hypoperfusion. Clinical manifestations may include dizziness, memory decline, difficulty concentrating, tinnitus, and limb paresthesia.

Vertebrobasilar artery stenosis can occur at any location—extracranial or intracranial—and accounts for approximately 20% of posterior circulation ischemic strokes. Stenotic lesions, particularly those involving the origin of the vertebral artery, are relatively common. So, what consequences can right vertebral artery stenosis cause? Below, we address this question.

What consequences can right vertebral artery stenosis cause?

Right vertebral artery stenosis may lead to impaired cerebral blood supply, trigger cerebral infarction, or induce ischemic ocular disorders, among other complications.

When stenosis occurs in the right vertebral artery, the blood supply pathway becomes obstructed, impeding timely delivery of oxygenated blood to the brain and resulting in cerebral hypoperfusion. Patients may experience symptoms such as dizziness, memory decline, difficulty concentrating, tinnitus, and limb paresthesia. These symptoms can be alleviated pharmacologically—for example, with Jingfukang Granules or Dibazole Tablets.

Right vertebral artery stenosis may also stem from intracranial atherosclerosis. If an atherosclerotic plaque dislodges, it can readily precipitate thrombosis, leading to severe complications such as cerebral infarction. Cerebral infarction may cause localized paralysis or even complete paralysis, and in severe cases, may result in death. Surgical interventions—including craniectomy for decompression or partial resection of affected brain tissue—may be considered.

The right vertebral artery is also a major vessel directly supplying blood to the eye. Stenosis of this artery compromises ocular perfusion and may even cause retrograde blood flow in the ocular vasculature, thereby triggering ischemic ocular disorders. Pharmacologic treatment options include Xueshuantong Injection and Mecobalamin Capsules.

The above outlines the potential consequences of right vertebral artery stenosis. We hope this information proves helpful to you.
