Introduction
Varicocele—moderate to severe cases are difficult to improve; however, for mild varicocele, lifestyle modifications and oral medications for symptomatic treatment may be effective. Patients with mild varicocele should promptly correct unhealthy lifestyle habits once diagnosed early—for instance, those who stand frequently should sit down periodically. Additionally, they should consume more fresh vegetables and fruits.

Varicocele refers to the dilation and tortuosity of the pampiniform venous plexus within the spermatic cord, resulting from venous stasis caused by various factors. Most patients are asymptomatic and thus often overlook the condition. In severe cases, however, patients may experience swelling of the affected scrotum accompanied by a sensation of heaviness or dull pain. So, how can varicocele be improved? The following addresses this question.

How to Improve Varicocele

Moderate-to-severe varicocele is difficult to improve conservatively. In contrast, mild varicocele may be managed effectively through lifestyle modifications and symptomatic pharmacotherapy. Once mild varicocele is detected early, patients should promptly correct unhealthy habits—for instance, those who stand for prolonged periods should sit down periodically.

For individuals who sit for extended durations—such as taxi drivers or university students preparing for graduate entrance exams—it is advisable to stand up and walk around briefly after prolonged sitting to promote venous return from the spermatic cord. Maintaining any single posture for long periods impairs venous drainage from the spermatic cord. Patients with mild varicocele may also benefit from oral administration of Aescuven (aescin), which has demonstrated favorable therapeutic efficacy.

Additionally, patients should consume more fresh vegetables and fruits, avoid alcohol and spicy or irritating foods, maintain regular daily bowel movements to prevent fecal impaction—which could compress the left spermatic vein—and engage in physical labor or exercise according to their individual capacity. They should avoid prolonged heavy lifting, standing, or walking, as these activities increase intra-abdominal pressure, stretch the scrotum, and obstruct venous return from the perineum.

We hope the above information is helpful to you.
