Introduction
If a family has a history of cryptorchidism, the likelihood of genetic inheritance is relatively high; however, local factors also play a significant role. For instance, recurrent mechanical obstruction or adhesions of the tunica vaginalis may impede normal testicular descent. Additionally, endocrine hormonal abnormalities can lead to cryptorchidism, which may be either unilateral or bilateral.

In daily life, many individuals experience disorders of genital system development, which can easily lead to sexual dysfunction in men. What causes cryptorchidism (undescended testes) in males?

What Causes Cryptorchidism in Males?

Cryptorchidism in males may result from endocrine hormonal imbalances, genetic factors, and anatomical abnormalities. Endocrine-related causes primarily involve maternal gonadotropins, which stimulate fetal testicular interstitial cells to produce androgens. Thus, intrinsic testicular defects may impair gonadotropin secretion or lead to insufficient androgen production.

A family history of cryptorchidism increases the likelihood of inheritance; however, local factors also play a significant role. Mechanical obstruction or adhesions involving the tunica vaginalis may impede normal testicular descent. Endocrine disturbances may cause either unilateral or bilateral cryptorchidism, often coexisting with local anatomical abnormalities.

Male patients are advised to promptly undergo comprehensive genital examinations at a hospital, supplemented by ultrasound imaging to identify the underlying cause. If anatomical factors are responsible, surgical intervention—such as orchiopexy (testicular fixation) or, in select cases, testicular transplantation—may be performed to reposition the testis into the scrotum. During treatment, meticulous local hygiene must be maintained. We hope this information proves helpful to you.
