Introduction
Electric mosquito repellent liquids are harmful to infants because their liver, kidney function, and central nervous system have not yet fully matured. Using electric mosquito repellent pads containing pyrethroids may cause damage to the central nervous system or trigger asthma and other symptoms upon inhalation of these fumes. Therefore, electric mosquito repellent pads pose certain health risks to infants.

In daily life, we commonly use electric mosquito-repellent pads to deter mosquitoes. But are these electric mosquito-repellent pads harmful to infants?

Are electric mosquito-repellent pads harmful to infants?

Yes, electric mosquito-repellent liquid formulations can be harmful to infants. Because infants’ liver and kidney functions—as well as their central nervous systems—are not yet fully developed, exposure to pyrethroid-based electric mosquito-repellent pads may cause central nervous system damage or trigger respiratory symptoms such as asthma upon inhalation of the emitted vapors. Therefore, electric mosquito-repellent pads pose certain health risks to infants.

Mosquito control measures: Maintain good environmental hygiene by eliminating stagnant water and wastewater—key breeding sites for mosquitoes. In areas with high mosquito density, adult mosquitoes can be captured using nets or adhesive traps. Protect natural mosquito predators such as frogs, bats, and certain bird species. Indoors, insecticidal sprays containing 5% DDT, 0.5% dichlorvos (DDVP), trichlorfon, or hexachlorobenzene may be applied; alternatively, traditional mosquito coils can be burned to repel mosquitoes. Install window and door screens and use bed nets to prevent mosquito bites. Apply insect-repellent lotions or oils to exposed skin to further reduce the risk of bites.

Infants have weaker immune defenses than adults and may therefore exhibit additional adverse reactions; thus, the use of electric mosquito-repellent liquids is not recommended. If mosquitoes are present in the home, an electric mosquito swatter may be used instead. We hope this information has been helpful!
