Introduction
Calamine lotion may be applied appropriately. For marked pruritus, intravenous calcium gluconate is indicated. Sodium thiosulfate may also be administered intravenously. Glucocorticoids such as dexamethasone may be used when necessary. For mild pruritus and limited disease progression, second-generation oral antihistamines—such as cetirizine tablets—may be prescribed appropriately.

Red, densely clustered bumps have appeared on the body, accompanied by intense itching—this is likely an allergic reaction. It is also important to assess whether urticaria (hives) may be contributing to these symptoms. So, what should one do when red bumps appear on the body and cause severe itching at night?

How to Treat Red Bumps with Nighttime Itching

Calamine lotion may be applied topically as appropriate. For pronounced itching, intravenous calcium gluconate or intravenous sodium thiosulfate may be administered. In severe cases, corticosteroids such as dexamethasone may also be indicated. If itching is mild and the affected area is limited, second-generation oral antihistamines—such as cetirizine tablets—may be taken.

The appearance of red, itchy swellings at night is commonly attributed to a cutaneous allergic reaction. As prescribed by a physician, oral antihistamines—including cetirizine and levocetirizine—may be used for treatment. For localized, severe pruritus, topical compound lotions may be applied to relieve itching. Redness and swelling on the body can arise from various causes; the most common is urticaria (hives), which may present as erythematous wheals triggered by food allergies or physical or chemical factors.

Cold exposure, fever, and certain other infectious diseases may also cause red, swollen lesions, typically associated with itching. Another possibility is eczema. In hot weather, red bumps may develop. Eczema often exhibits seasonal patterns, and excessive sweating is one of its contributing factors. Wishing you good health and happiness!
