How to Take Yuting
Yuting (levonorgestrel) is indicated for emergency contraception in women—that is, it is used when no contraceptive protection was employed or when other contraceptive methods failed unexpectedly. So, how should Yuting be taken?
How to Take Yuting
Yuting should be taken within 72 hours after unprotected intercourse. The regimen consists of two doses: the first tablet is taken as soon as possible within this timeframe, followed by a second tablet 12 hours later. For optimal absorption and efficacy, it is recommended to take each dose on an empty stomach—i.e., avoid food for one hour before and one hour after administration. Yuting is a highly potent progestin that can significantly disrupt female endocrine function; therefore, it must not be used as a routine contraceptive method. Moreover, it carries a risk of contraceptive failure. If menstruation is delayed, patients must undergo serum or urine human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) testing to confirm or rule out pregnancy.

Contraception can be achieved through several mechanisms:
• Inhibition of ovulation: Oral contraceptives suppress ovulation. These include both long-acting and short-acting formulations; short-acting pills require daily intake, and missing a dose increases the risk of contraceptive failure. Subdermal implants—small hormone-releasing tubes placed under the skin of the upper arm—provide sustained progestin release to inhibit ovulation and alter endometrial receptivity.
• Prevention of sperm entry into the vagina: This includes barrier methods such as male condoms, vaginal spermicidal films applied prior to intercourse, or vasectomy in males.

• Tubal ligation: This surgical procedure blocks sperm access to the fallopian tubes and impairs tubal transport function, thereby preventing fertilization.
• Intrauterine devices (IUDs): Insertion of an IUD alters the intrauterine environment to prevent implantation of a fertilized egg. Progestin-releasing IUDs additionally exert an ovulation-inhibiting effect.
