Disease description:

Recently, I’ve often been drinking chicken soup to address my qi and blood deficiency. Today, during a routine health checkup, my doctor informed me that my blood glucose level is slightly elevated. Could you please explain why chicken soup might raise blood sugar?

Dr. Cui Zhenqin
Although chicken soup is highly nutritious, it also contains a substantial amount of fat. Regular consumption of chicken soup can lead to abnormally elevated fat levels in the body; once this excess fat is metabolized, it may be converted into glucose, thereby raising blood sugar levels. If chicken soup is consumed specifically to replenish qi and blood, skimming off the surface fat before drinking can help appropriately mitigate the associated rise in blood glucose.
