What factors affect globin synthesis?
Disease description:
I’ve recently experienced kidney pain and went to the hospital for evaluation; the diagnosis indicated insufficient globin synthesis. What factors can affect globin synthesis?
Factors affecting globin synthesis primarily include the following:
Firstly, impaired β-globin production—i.e., β-thalassemia—caused by point mutations or deletions in the relevant gene.
Secondly, sideroblastic anemia (also referred to as “globin synthesis-related anemia” in some contexts). Globin is a relatively common clinical entity; it constitutes one component of hemoglobin, the other being heme. Clinically, disorders of globin synthesis may lead to congenital dyserythropoietic anemia—a hereditary hemolytic anemia.
