Disease description:

My husband was recently diagnosed with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Yesterday, he bathed in the bathtub, and I used the same bathtub afterward. I’m worried about possible transmission—can systemic lupus erythematosus be contagious?

In general, this condition is not contagious; however, individuals with compromised immunity may be at risk of infection, so appropriate self-protection measures are essential. Additionally, avoid scratching the affected area when experiencing pruritus, as this can easily lead to secondary infection. Maintain local skin cleanliness and hygiene, change undergarments frequently, adjust dietary habits—avoiding spicy, irritating, and “heat-inducing” foods—and ensure adequate nutritional intake to enhance immune function. Regular follow-up examinations are also recommended.
