Is fasting required for the ABO hemolysis test?
Disease description:
I would like to undergo an ABO hemolytic test, which I’ve never had before. Is fasting required for the ABO hemolytic test?
ABO hemolysis testing does not require fasting.
Among the various tests for hemolysis, some require fasting while others do not. Routine hemolysis investigations typically include: complete blood count (CBC), reticulocyte count, liver function tests (biochemical panel), Coombs test, Ham test, sucrose hemolysis test, CD55 and CD59 assays, and abdominal ultrasound (evaluating the liver, gallbladder, pancreas, spleen, and kidneys). Of these, liver function tests and abdominal ultrasound must be performed in a fasting state; however, ABO hemolysis testing does not require fasting.
