Dr. Liu Feng
The ABO hemolysis test does not require fasting. The ABO hemolysis test is performed to assess the risk of hemolysis potentially caused by blood type incompatibility between mother and child, especially when the mother has blood type O and the fetus has blood type A or B. This test is mainly conducted through blood typing, collection of maternal and fetal blood samples, antiglobulin testing, free antibody screening, and red blood cell enzyme assays. Before the test, patients do not need to fast specifically, as food does not significantly affect blood components and will not interfere with the results of the hemolysis test. Prior to the test, patients should inform their doctor whether they are currently taking any medications, especially those that may affect the results of the hemolysis test, such as iron supplements, liver-protecting tablets, etc. Additionally, patients should ensure adequate rest and avoid strenuous exercise before the test to reduce the risk of adverse reactions.
