Sallow or yellowish skin discoloration is associated with numerous causes: 1. **Carotenemia**: Elevated blood carotene levels can lead to carotenemia, a benign condition causing yellow-orange skin discoloration. In severe cases, the nasolabial folds, forehead, alae nasi, nasal tip, or even the entire face—excluding the sclera and mucous membranes—may appear orange-yellow. 2. **Endocrine imbalance**: Chronic sleep deprivation and irregular sleep patterns (e.g., frequent late-night activity) may result in dull, sallow, and lackluster skin. 3. **Common hepatobiliary disorders**: Liver or biliary tract diseases—including hepatitis, cirrhosis, cholestasis, or gallstones—can manifest as jaundice or generalized sallow skin. 4. **Normal skin tone**: Inadequate sun protection may cause photoaging and melanin deposition, leading to sallowness despite otherwise healthy skin.
