Hello, If liver and kidney dysfunction have been ruled out, ankle swelling is primarily caused by poor circulation in the lower limbs. Possible underlying conditions include arthritis or localized nerve and vascular compression. Prolonged standing, excessive walking, fatigue, or exposure to cold may also trigger this symptom. Initial management may include physical therapy, warm compresses, and acupuncture to help alleviate symptoms. If pressing on the swollen area leaves a noticeable indentation (pitting edema), liver or kidney dysfunction is more likely, and liver and kidney function tests are recommended. It is important to actively treat any underlying disease and protect the ankle joint—avoid prolonged standing and excessive walking, keep the area warm, and follow a low-salt, low-fat diet. We hope this information is helpful to you. Wishing you good health and happiness!
