My wife is considering having a hysterectomy due to her medical condition. Could you please explain the potential consequences of undergoing a hysterectomy?

Dr. Yang Qiong
The consequences of hysterectomy include the cessation of menstruation and the inability to become pregnant or bear children. If only the uterus is removed (i.e., a simple hysterectomy), ovarian function is preserved; thus, aside from the loss of fertility and menstruation, ovulation remains normal. Therefore, there is no need for excessive psychological stress—most women experience no other adverse symptoms, and sexual function is typically unaffected.
