What to do about cold uterus (宫寒)
I'm having such a hard time! Every time my period comes, I experience severe abdominal pain, and the flow is not heavy. I have a cold uterus constitution. I usually pay a lot of attention to keeping warm, but it's still like this. How should I manage and regulate my condition?

Uterine coldness is a common gynecological issue, primarily caused by factors such as cold exposure, improper diet, excessive fatigue, malnutrition, and repeated miscarriages. It mainly manifests as menstrual irregularities, dysmenorrhea, abnormal vaginal discharge, and similar symptoms. It can be managed through medication and general treatment approaches.
In traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), the treatment principle for uterine coldness typically involves warming the meridians to dispel cold and promoting blood circulation to remove blood stasis. Symptoms can be improved through regulation with TCM herbs, moxibustion, cupping, and other methods. Depending on the type of uterine coldness—deficiency cold or excess cold—appropriate medications can be selected. For deficiency cold, medicines such as Ai Fu Nuan Gong Wan and Jin Kui Shen Qi Wan may be used, while for excess cold, treatments such as Wen Jing Tang and Gui Zhi Fu Ling Wan may be applied.
Additionally, patients are advised to adjust their lifestyle habits, keep warm—especially the waist and abdomen—avoid consuming raw and cold foods, and eat more warming and nourishing foods such as ginger, red dates, and longan. Maintaining a regular作息 (sleep-wake cycle), avoiding staying up late, and keeping the lower abdomen, waist, and feet warm to avoid prolonged exposure to cold environments are also recommended.
If similar symptoms occur, it is advisable to seek timely medical consultation and have a professional physician develop a treatment plan based on individual conditions.
