How is “water monkey” treated?
Disease description:
Recently, several small lumps have appeared on our child’s neck. An elder family member examined them and said they are “water warts” (molluscum contagiosum). Could you please advise how water warts are treated?
“Little monkey” is the colloquial term for molluscum contagiosum—a viral skin infection caused by the molluscum contagiosum virus. It spreads primarily through direct contact. Children are more susceptible due to their relatively immature immune systems. Treatment includes local disinfection and topical medications such as tretinoin ointment or imiquimod cream, along with oral antiviral agents. Additionally, increasing vitamin intake can help boost immunity.
