Can people with gout eat chestnuts?
Disease description:
I really enjoy eating chestnuts—especially roasted ones—but I haven’t had them for a long time due to my gout. I’d like to know: Is it safe for people with gout to eat chestnuts?
Gout patients can consume chestnuts. Chestnuts are not high-purine foods; therefore, eating them does not increase uric acid levels in gout patients nor cause fluctuations in serum uric acid. Consequently, chestnuts are highly suitable for gout patients. They are rich in vitamins, starch, and protein, providing the body with abundant nutrients. Additionally, chestnuts possess certain medicinal properties, particularly nourishing the kidneys.
Most fruits, vegetables, milk, and eggs are safe for gout patients to consume, with no strict limitations on quantity.
