What Are the Common Diseases in Elderly People and How Are They Treated?
Disease description:
I am also quite elderly, and my health has never been very good. I would like to learn about the common diseases among older adults and how they are treated.
Arthritis: Primarily a degenerative condition of the articular cartilage affecting older adults. Weight management can alleviate pain, improve joint function, and enhance quality of life; aerobic exercise is also recommended. Pharmacological treatment mainly involves analgesics, with celecoxib (e.g., Celebrex®) being commonly used. However, medication use in older adults requires caution and must be guided by a physician.
Cervical spondylosis: May occasionally present with dizziness and numbness in the hands and feet. In elderly individuals, prolonged maintenance of a single posture leads to chronic tension and rigidity in the neck and shoulder muscles, impairing local blood circulation and predisposing to cervical spondylosis. Prevention includes regular, appropriate physical activity tailored to individual capacity—such as practicing Tai Chi—while avoiding unqualified massage establishments.
